So we’ve received A LOT of questions about Coupa and it’s
actually funny which one is the most common.
We’re going to set the record straight and answer the number one question
of “Where did Coupa get that name from”?
Supposedly the story goes that the founders of the company
used to frequent a café in the greater San Francisco area. Many of days were spent there brainstorming,
drinking coffee, and creating the vision for what has now become Coupa. After coming up with the AWESOME concept of
creating a consumer like shopping experience for businesses, they got ready to
set their plan into action. However, there was
only one problem. They realized that
they didn’t have a name!
So this is how I envision it happening (granted I wasn't there and heard the story second hand)… They looked around the café in
some deep thought, trying to come up with a name. Then, they looked at each other and the light
bulbs went off! They decided to talk to
the owner of the “Coupa Café” and asked if
they could borrow the name "Coupa”. Apparently he said yes! One of the most robust eProcurement
solutions on the market simply got its name from a friendly café that supplied some
much needed freshly brewed brain power!
